Dhule FDA seizes khoa worth Rs 16.5 lakh from luxury bus
Acting on a tip-off, the Food and Drug Administration stopped a luxury bus in Dhule and seized 5,385 kg of suspected adulterated khoa.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, has been carrying out a series of crackdowns across the state in recent days. In the latest action, the department has seized khoa being transported in a luxury bus in Dhule. The seized khoa is valued at Rs 16,52,100.
Mundhe's department has been focusing on adulterated goods, unhygienic conditions in eateries, and food safety in general, stepping up action ahead of various festivals. With the help of Dhule taluka police, the department seized 5,385 kg of mawa (khoa) being transported in a luxury bus. The goods, seized on suspicion of adulteration, have been kept in cold storage for now.
According to information received, the FDA had a tip-off that an Ashok Leyland Welcome luxury bus bearing registration number MP-44-ZF-7214, travelling from Ahmedabad to Akola, was being used to smuggle mawa used for making sweets. Acting on this information, an FDA team, with police help, stopped and searched the bus near Hotel Balaji on Sakri Road in the Morane area. The search turned up large quantities of mawa from various companies. The vehicle was then brought to Disan Cold Storage near the toll plaza for further action.
The seized goods include products such as Premium Halwa (Brajnidhi), Premium Halwa (Ganesha), Indian Sweet Halwa (Nandi), Sweet Halwa (Khodla), Halwa (Shri Gwal), Halwa (Shri Gokul), Sweet Halwa (Gopal), Traditional Sweet (Shri Gwal), Traditional Sweet (Shri Gokul), Indian Sweet (Shri Gopal), Krishna Halwa, Indian Dessert (Nandi) and Premium Dessert (Meera).
Following the raid, department officials have sent all samples to a laboratory for testing. The administration said further legal action will be taken once the report is received.
