Coolpad Cool X Wide, a passport-shaped phone, opens pre-orders in China from 999 yuan

Smartphone maker Coolpad recently launched its new phone, the Coolpad Cool X Wide. Pre-orders have now begun in China. The phone has a wide, passport-like design.

The biggest feature of the phone is its wide display, which sets it apart from other smartphones. The company says a phone with this kind of wide-screen design is becoming a talking point in the Android smartphone segment.

The Coolpad Cool X Wide has been launched in three variants: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB. The 8GB + 128GB variant is priced at 999 yuan, about Rs 8,700. The 8GB + 256GB variant costs 1,199 yuan, about Rs 10,500. The 12GB + 256GB variant is priced at 1,399 yuan, about Rs 12,200.

Customers can pre-order the phone through JD.com. Details of when the phone will launch in India and other countries have not been shared so far.

The phone has a 6.38-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and supports a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The wide design is meant to offer a good experience for watching videos, reading e-books and other uses. The phone is wider than a typical smartphone and shorter in height, which makes its design look different from the tall, narrow phones on the market.

For performance, the phone carries a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. The device will have up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. Storage can also be expanded up to 256GB with a TF card.

The Helio G99 processor supports only 4G networks, which means the phone does not have 5G connectivity.

For photography, the phone has a 50MP camera. It also has a 4,600mAh battery. The company has not shared details of the charging speed or the front camera for now. Coolpad has launched the Cool X Wide as a smartphone with a new form factor. Huawei had earlier also introduced a wide-screen smartphone called the Pura X View.
