An MBA (Master of Business Administration) is no longer just a degree but a good way to give a career a new direction. Many students want to do an MBA after graduation to get a good job, better pay and more chances to move up. But the biggest question before taking admission is which specialisation to choose.
An MBA offers several specialisations, including finance, marketing, business analytics, operations and human resources. Choosing the right one can benefit a career. Even so, a package of lakhs or crores does not come from a degree alone. A good college, a student's skills, experience and the needs of companies also matter.
The first is MBA in Finance. For those who like keeping accounts, understanding figures and matters related to investment, it can be a good option. It teaches the management of a company's money, investment, banking, financial planning and understanding risk. Graduates can then find jobs in banks, financial institutions, investment firms and large corporate companies. They may also get to work as financial analysts, investment banking professionals, risk managers and finance managers. The field offers good earning potential, but pay depends on a person's ability, college and job profile.
The second is MBA in Business Analytics. Companies today are using data to grow their business. They need to know what customers like, which product's demand is rising and how the business can be improved. This is why demand for the course is rising. It teaches taking business decisions on the basis of data, that is, understanding figures, preparing reports and solving business problems. Those who study it can work as business analysts, data analysts, consultants and in policy-related roles. It can be a good option for those interested in technology, data and business.
The third is MBA in Marketing. If you like talking to people, coming up with new ideas and taking a product to people, it can be useful. It teaches how a company's product or service can establish its identity in the market and connect with customers. Digital marketing, advertising, brand management, market research and sales are also included. After the course, one can work as a marketing manager, brand manager, digital marketing manager or sales manager. There are good earning opportunities, especially for those who think creatively and understand changing market trends.
The fourth is MBA in Operations. To make a company successful, making a good product is not enough. It is also essential that goods are ready on time, reach customers and that the cost of work stays under control. This course teaches how to handle such work well. The emphasis is on supply chain management, logistics, production planning, quality control and the proper use of resources. Jobs can follow as operations manager, supply chain manager, logistics manager and production manager. Companies in manufacturing, e-commerce, retail and logistics need professionals in this field.
The fifth is MBA in Human Resources. Every company needs people who can handle everything from recruiting employees to training and workplace problems. It teaches how to keep good coordination between employees and the company. Recruitment, employee training, pay management, performance evaluation and company policy are taught. After the course, one can work as an HR manager, talent acquisition specialist, training manager and HR business partner. It can be useful for those who like talking to people, working with a team and solving problems.
Now the question is which specialisation gets the best package. It would not be right to call any one MBA specialisation the highest paying. However, finance and business analytics offer very good packages for some particular posts. Experienced professionals in marketing, operations and human resources can also earn well.
Students from reputed institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) and other good business schools get excellent job opportunities in large companies. Even so, it is not certain that every student will get a package of lakhs or crores. The package depends on the college from which one did the MBA, how one's studies went, what skills one has and what kind of job one got.
