A 13-year-old boy died by suicide on Monday evening in Nagpur's Swavlambi Nagar area, leaving the neighbourhood in mourning. He studied in Class 8 and was a keen volleyball player. He took his life at his home in Bhende Layout. The incident came to light at around 7.30 pm.

The boy was reportedly alone at home at the time. His mother works at a private showroom. When she returned from work in the evening, she found the house locked from inside. She called out repeatedly but got no response. Alarmed, she called the neighbours, who broke down the door together. The boy was found unconscious. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

In her statement to Sonegaon police, the mother said her son was bright in his studies and had a promising future in sport. But several things were weighing on his mind at once. The biggest was the atmosphere at home. A bitter matrimonial dispute between his parents has been in court for a long time, and the teenager was deeply troubled by it.

Financial strain was also affecting the household. The boy's father works in the MIDC area. He is alleged not to have paid household expenses regularly. As a result, the 40-year-old mother had to bear the household costs and her son's education on her own. The father is also said to have shown little interest in meeting or speaking to his son. The boy was deeply hurt by this neglect and often shared his worries and distress with his mother.

Sonegaon police have registered a case of accidental death on the basis of the mother's detailed statement. Investigating officers are closely examining the atmosphere at home, the money disputes and the case pending in court, to establish the circumstances and the reason behind the boy's act.
