Serious technical flaws have been found in the cement concrete drain construction carried out by the gram panchayat in Bolda village near Neri in Chimur taluka. When engineers from the construction sub-division of Chimur Zilla Parishad inspected the site, the drain work was found unsatisfactory. A report on the matter has been submitted to the group development officer of Chimur Panchayat Samiti.

The report also notes that the work was carried out without the office's technical guidance. The construction sub-division of the Zilla Parishad had sanctioned a budget of Rs 2.71 lakh to the gram panchayat for building the drain in Bolda under technical approval order number 08/2026-27. A team comprising junior engineer Dnyaneshwar Vidhate and standing engineer assistant Akash Misal reached Bolda on September 18 to inspect the work.

The gram panchayat office was found closed at the time of the inspection. The team then inspected the drain work and found that about 25 metres of the drain had been constructed. However, the drain's slab was found to be only 75 mm thick, and the section of the drain was also not correct. Besides this, the main road in front of the drain had been dug up to build a drain on the other side. The inspection also showed that the dug-up main road had currently been temporarily filled in.

The engineers' inspection made clear that neither technical guidance nor the quality of work was attended to during the drain construction in Bolda. Bolda social worker Vijay Borkar said such lapses should not recur in development works funded with government money. He said the concerned system should investigate the matter, take action against those responsible, and ensure the drain work is completed properly.

The report has been sent to the group development officer of Chimur Panchayat Samiti for further action. Copies have also been sent to the executive engineer (construction), Zilla Parishad Chandrapur, and the deputy chief executive officer (gram panchayat), Zilla Parishad Chandrapur. Villagers in Bolda are now watching to see whether accountability is fixed in the inspection of the drain work, and what steps are taken to get the work completed according to technical standards.
