The National Deworming Day campaign will be held in Chandrapur district on October 27, 2026, followed by a mop-up day on November 3. The campaign is meant to improve children's health and nutrition, reduce worm infections and support their physical and intellectual development.
A meeting of the district task force committee was held recently to ensure the campaign is implemented properly. District Collector Vasumana Pant chaired it. Chief Executive Officer Pulkit Singh, District Health Officer Dr Ashok Katare, Surgeon Dr Bhaskar Sonarkar, Medical Officer Dr Nayana Uttarwar, Education Officer Ashwini Sonawane and District Mother and Child Care Officer Dr Snehal Kasare were present.
Deworming medicine is planned for 4,89,926 eligible beneficiaries across the district's rural and urban areas and the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation area. Of these, 3,55,995 are in rural areas, 52,487 in urban areas and 81,444 in the municipal corporation area. The campaign will run in all 15 tehsils of the district and the municipal corporation area. Children and adolescent boys and girls aged 1 to 19 will benefit.
The medicine will be given through government, government-aided and private schools, ashram schools, colleges, and anganwadi and mini anganwadi centres in rural and urban areas. The health, education, and women and child development departments will work together to reach children who do not attend school.
The entire stock of 11,41,000 albendazole tablets required for the campaign is available. Health workers, ASHA workers, anganwadi workers, teachers and staff of the departments concerned have been asked to work together. Plans have been made to keep beneficiary lists updated, record who has taken the medicine, submit daily reports and give the medicine to eligible children who missed it on the mop-up day.
The health department has issued some key instructions. Eligible children who miss the tablet on October 27 will be given it on the mop-up day, November 3, 2026. The instructions of the health workers concerned must be followed while giving the tablet. The child must be given clean drinking water after the tablet. If the child has nausea, vomiting, stomach ache or any other problem after taking it, the health worker or medical officer concerned should be contacted. The medical officer's advice should be sought on giving the medicine to sick children.
The health department has appealed to all parents, teachers, anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, health staff and departments concerned in the district to take an active part in the campaign, so that no eligible child is left without the deworming medicine.
