Weekly markets that are held on Fridays in villages and towns with polling stations in Chandrapur district will remain closed on October 23. The administration said the biennial election to the Nagpur division graduates' constituency will be held that day, Friday, October 23, 2026. The administration took the decision so that crowds and traffic obstruction do not arise on polling day. The markets at Warora, Chimur, Brahmapuri, Chandrapur, Ballarpur, Rajura and other places are covered.

District Collector and District Magistrate Vasumana Pant has issued the orders. The aim is that polling for this election to the Nagpur division graduates' constituency of the Maharashtra Legislative Council passes off peacefully, without fear and smoothly, and that law and order is maintained. The markets that are held on Fridays at the places where voting is taking place will therefore be kept shut.

The Election Commission of India announced the election programme on September 22, 2026. The model code of conduct has been in force in the district since that day. According to the programme, voting will take place at a total of 58 polling stations in Chandrapur district on Friday, October 23, from 8 am to 4 pm.

Under Sections 126 and 130 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a ban on campaigning will remain in force for 48 hours before the end of polling time. On polling day, carrying or displaying party symbols, slogans, pamphlets, banners or material appealing for votes, to attract voters, is prohibited within 200 metres of a polling station. Campaigning through loudspeakers or other sound devices in the vicinity of the stations is also banned.

Against this background, the decision to keep the markets shut was taken so that no needless crowds gather around the stations, traffic is not obstructed and voters can exercise their right to vote without fear. Under the provisions of the relevant law, the Director of Marketing, Maharashtra State, Pune, has approved keeping the weekly markets closed. Collector Vasumana Pant then used the powers vested in her and ordered that these markets, held on Fridays at the relevant places where voting is taking place, be kept shut on October 23.

The weekly markets at the following places will remain closed: Warora, Shegaon Bu. (Warora taluka), Chimur, Bhisi, Shankarpur (Chimur taluka), Nagbhid (Nagbhid taluka), Brahmapuri, Gangalwadi (Brahmapuri taluka), Sindewahi, Navargaon (Sindewahi taluka), Bhadravati (Bhadravati taluka), Chandrapur, Ghugus (Chandrapur taluka), Mul, Saoli, Ballarpur, Rajura, Gadchandur (Korpana taluka), Pombhurna and Gondpipri.
