Chandrapur police act against 615 habitual offenders ahead of Ganeshotsav
Chandrapur police launched a crackdown before Ganeshotsav, externing 39 offenders and deploying AI surveillance vans to track them.
To ensure Ganeshotsav and immersion processions pass off peacefully across Chandrapur district without any law and order problems, Chandrapur district police have launched a major preventive campaign against habitual offenders and anti-social elements. The campaign began before the start of the Ganeshotsav season, with intensive action carried out across the district.
Under this campaign, 615 habitual offenders were made to sign good conduct bonds, undertaking in writing not to commit any crime during the festival period. Thirty-nine offenders were directly externed from the district, meaning they were ordered to stay outside the limits of Chandrapur district. In addition, mini-externment action was taken against 1,761 suspects. Extremely strict action was taken under the MPDA Act against four notorious offenders who had repeatedly committed serious crimes and spread fear in society, and they have been directly detained in jail.
The entire campaign was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani and Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade. All sub-divisional police officers in the district, inspectors of the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and station house officers of all police stations worked together to successfully carry out this campaign.
To keep a close watch on the externed offenders, Chandrapur police have begun using advanced AI surveillance CCTV camera vans. Photographs and complete details of all externed offenders have already been recorded in the facial recognition system fitted in these vans. As a result, if any offender is found moving around or entering the district without permission during the externment period, the cameras in these vans will identify him instantly and alert the police.
Police have issued a clear warning that offenders who violate the externment order and enter the district will immediately face fresh cases and strict imprisonment. Police administration said the force is fully prepared to prevent any untoward incident during Ganeshotsav.
Police administration has appealed to citizens to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm and devotion while following all rules, and to immediately inform the police of any suspicious activity.
