Chandrapur plants trees in swastika pattern in 50 gram panchayats on one day amid drought

The district administration began the drive to give rural labourers work and protect the environment, with 16 types of medicinal plants being grown.

A tree plantation drive in a swastika pattern was launched on a single day in 50 gram panchayats of Chandrapur district. The district is currently facing drought conditions. Against this backdrop, the Chandrapur district administration has taken up the initiative so that rural labourers get an opportunity for employment while the ecological balance is also maintained.

The initiative is being carried out on the concept of District Collector Vasumana Pant. It was launched in 50 gram panchayats of the district on the same day, with the cooperation of Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Pulkit Singh.

The main launch took place at Sagara and Kondegaon in Bhadravati taluka. It was inaugurated by Girish Dhaygude, deputy district programme coordinator. Heads of various Zilla Parishad departments were present in different gram panchayats and planted saplings with their own hands.

The main feature of the drive is that 16 types of medicinal plants are being grown in a specific swastika-shaped layout. This will create a natural "oxygen garden" in the villages.

The initiative will not be limited to tree planting. In the open space at the centre of the swastika layout, modern facilities such as a lawn, an open gym, a yoga centre and a walking track are planned for citizens in future.

Planting trees alone is not the aim during the drought. The main objective is to provide rural labourers and needy families with sustainable employment locally through the work of tending and protecting the trees. Both objectives, planting trees and providing work, will thus be achieved together through the drive.

Anita Meshram, Commissioner of the V.B.G. Ram G department, and Joint Commissioner Dr Vivek Ghodke gave special guidance for the successful organisation of the initiative. M. S. Nathan, founder of Vruksh Kranti Mission Foundation, known as the "Oxygen Man", put in special effort for the drive.

Bhadravati Block Development Officer Ashutosh Sapkal, officials of various panchayat samitis, sarpanches and deputy sarpanches of gram panchayats, village employment assistants, technical staff and villagers were present in large numbers. The initiative has thus begun in villages across Chandrapur district, with officials, office-bearers and villagers taking part together.
