Public Navratri festival mandals in Chandrapur district have been given three days to take out immersion processions. The administration has permitted the processions on October 21, 22 and 24. The decision has brought joy among thousands of devotees and the festival mandals across the district.
MP Pratibha Dhanorkar had pressed the matter firmly, keeping in mind the financial difficulties of the mandals and the faith of devotees. Her stand is being seen as a significant success. The administration looked sympathetically at the mandals' demands and fixed three days for immersion.
The Navratri festival, in worship of Adishakti, is being celebrated in Chandrapur district with great devotion and enthusiasm. This year, because of the dates of Navami and Dashami, many mandals were finding it difficult to hold immersion on October 21. In addition, the graduates' constituency election is to be held on October 23. In view of this, the administration had initially imposed some restrictions. This had caused the mandals serious financial trouble and confusion over arrangements.
To find a quick solution, MP Pratibha Dhanorkar had written to the district Superintendent of Police. She had demanded that immersion processions be permitted on October 22 and 24, leaving out October 23, the day of the election. Balancing people's sentiments with law and order, the administration has now permitted immersion on all three days, October 21, 22 and 24.
Following the decision, the festival mandals of Chandrapur have thanked MP Pratibha Dhanorkar and the district police administration. All mandals have also been urged to follow the police administration's rules and to complete the immersion programme peacefully.
Praising the decision, it was said: "The administration's decision, made with respect for the devotees' faith and the mandals' difficulties, is commendable. It has spared the mandals financial loss, and the entire festival will conclude with peace, discipline and enthusiasm."
