A case has been registered over the abuse of Shriram Dharane, the police patil of Mhasli village in Chimur taluka of Chandrapur district. According to the complaint, the reason was that he had asked for the DJ to be switched off during the Durga idol immersion procession. The complainant alleges that the president of the mandal hurled obscene abuse and also threatened him. Chimur police have booked the accused under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A public Durga idol immersion procession was taken out in Mhasli village, which falls under Chimur police station limits. Shriram Gulab Dharane, 38, lives in Mhasli and has worked as the village police patil since 2016. Sachin Dilip Sonwane, president of the Durga Devi mandal, was also part of the procession.

A DJ had been set up in the procession. Under the police administration's rules, the DJ could be played only until 2 pm. Acting on the police administration's order, Police Patil Dharane asked the mandal members at 2 pm to switch off the DJ. The DJ was then turned off.

At that time, Sachin Sonwane was dancing with villagers. According to the complaint, he nursed anger over the police patil having the DJ stopped. He threatened to "see to" the police patil and abused him in obscene language.

At around 6.30 pm the same day, the accused, Sachin Sonwane, again vented his anger over the DJ being stopped. He phoned the village sarpanch, Sanket Dhanraj Sonwane, and used abusive words about the police patil.

According to the complainant, the accused also asked how the police patil had stopped the DJ and how he would take the wind out of his airs as a patil. In the same conversation, he also threatened to kill him. The complainant has a mobile recording of the entire abusive exchange.

Police Patil Shriram Gulab Dharane had given an oral complaint. On that basis, Chimur police registered a case against the accused, Sachin Dilip Sonwane. Sachin is 34 and a resident of Mhasli, Chimur taluka, Chandrapur district. He has been booked under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Police Havaldar Rajkumar Namdev Chaudhari is investigating the case further.
