The scheme to regularise Gunthewari properties has brought Rs 140 crore into the civic coffers, with 6,885 of 12,992 applications approved so far.
The scheme run by the municipal corporation to regularise Gunthewari properties in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has so far brought Rs 140 crore in revenue into the corporation's coffers. Property owners have responded well to the scheme, which is why a large sum has come in.
A total of 12,992 applications have been received under the scheme so far, of which 6,885 have been approved. The process of Gunthewari regularisation appears to be gathering pace.
The corporation launched the scheme to legalise, as per rules, properties in the city that were developed without permission. Initially the response from people was not as expected, so the administration appealed to them from time to time about the application process and the deadline. After that, a large number of property owners submitted applications. The scheme was open until October 31.
That deadline has now ended, and property owners are keen to know whether the scheme will get a further extension of two months. Even after the deadline, thousands of property owners are waiting for regularisation. In view of this, corporators from all parties had demanded that the scheme be extended by two more months. A decision on extending the deadline is still awaited.
Some properties are on Waqf Board land, some on reserved plots and some on Class II land. Questions were also raised in the meeting about regularising such properties.
