Mumbai commuters planning to travel by local train on Sunday, October 18, should check the railway's update before leaving home. Mega blocks will be taken on the Central Railway and Harbour Railway routes to complete engineering and maintenance work on the suburban network.

The block will be on the fifth and sixth lines between Thane and Kalyan. A block will also be taken on the up and down Harbour line between Panvel and Vashi. Some local trains will be cancelled, and mail and express services are likely to be affected. Western Railway has no mega block on Sunday.

On Central Railway, the mega block on the fifth and sixth lines between Thane and Kalyan will run from 9 am to 1 pm on Sunday. Engineering and maintenance work will be carried out during this period.

Because of the block, up mail and express trains will be diverted to the up fast line between Thane and Kalyan, while down trains will be diverted to the down fast line. These trains may reach their destinations 10 to 15 minutes behind schedule.

The trains affected include the Solapur Vande Bharat, Pune-Sinhagad, Deccan Queen, Pragati Express, Mangaluru Express, Rajgir-Janata Express, Kakinada Port Express and Banaras Superfast. Passengers on long journeys should plan according to the timetable.

On the Harbour line, a five-hour mega block will be taken on the up and down lines between Panvel and Vashi from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm. Many local services will be cancelled during this time, and passengers will have to make other arrangements.

The cancelled services are the up Harbour locals from Panvel towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the down Harbour locals from CSMT towards Belapur and Panvel, the up Trans-Harbour locals from Panvel towards Thane, and the down Trans-Harbour locals from Thane towards Panvel. Passengers on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines will need to take particular care.

To ease the inconvenience, special local trains will run between CSMT and Vashi during the block. Trans-Harbour locals will also be available between Thane and Vashi and between Thane and Nerul.

Despite the blocks on the Central and Harbour routes, no mega block will be taken on Western Railway on Sunday, which will come as a big relief to passengers on that route.

Passengers should check the latest timetable of local and express trains before travelling on Sunday. Planning around the changes during the block can help avoid delays and inconvenience.
