The CBI has arrested four more people in a case of alleged financial irregularities of more than Rs 700 crore linked to Haryana government departments, Chandigarh Smart City and the Crest Society. The accused are Gaurav Kansal, Siddharth Narula, Mohit and Manoj. A CBI court in Panchkula has sent the four to three days' custody.

According to the CBI, Kansal, a utensils trader, acted as a middleman in the transactions. He is alleged to have converted money withdrawn from government accounts into cash and deposited it again in bank accounts. Together with Ribhav Rishi, then branch manager of IDFC Bank and the alleged mastermind, he is alleged to have diverted Rs 94 crore over two years. It is also alleged that transactions were routed through several bank accounts to hide the source of the government funds.

The CBI said Rs 18.46 crore was withdrawn from the account of the Kalka municipal council on January 20, 2026. Of this, Rs 2 crore was collected in cash and, the CBI claims, sent to Delhi through hawala the same day. The CBI says the money reached the son of the accused IAS officer R.K. Singh.

Meanwhile, large transactions also took place in the accounts of Mohit Goyal, owner of Chandigarh Mega Store, and his firm Bhagwati Agencies. The CBI said four companies sent Rs 59.50 crore to these accounts through 112 transactions between October 11, 2023 and January 28, 2026. Only Rs 14.05 crore was sent back in return.

Government funds are alleged to have been diverted through fake companies and converted into cash. Investigators are looking into who the money finally reached and where property was bought with it.

Separately, another case of financial irregularities linked to a temple has surfaced in Maharashtra, even as the theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya remains a live issue. An alleged irregularity of Rs 60 crore 75 lakh 28 thousand has come to light in the Shri Sant Sadguru Balumama Devasthan Committee at Shri Kshetra Adamapur in Kolhapur district. A case has been registered against three people, including Deputy Registrar Ragini Khadke. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has begun investigating the matter.
