Car crashes into truck in Jamshedpur, minister's daughter among four dead

Four people were killed in a horrific accident in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, in the early hours of Thursday, including the daughter of state rural development minister Deepika Pandey Singh. The accident took place around 3 am in the Marine Drive, Domuhani area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Sonari police station. The investigation is being carried out by Sonari police.

According to police, four people were travelling in the car. While going along Domuhani Marine Drive, the speeding car rammed into the rear of a truck parked on the side of the road. The impact was so severe that the car virtually went into the rear of the truck and was smashed to pieces. All four occupants of the car died on the spot. Police have not yet released detailed information on exactly how fast the car was travelling or exactly where and how the truck was parked.

Police officers rushed to the spot as soon as they learnt of the accident and began rescue work. Local reports said the damage to the car was so severe that gas cutters had to be used to extract the bodies, indicating the speed and force of the collision. After the spot inspection was completed, the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the exact speed of the car, the circumstances at the time of the accident and the causes behind it.

The accident has caused great grief in the state's political circles, as the dead include the daughter of rural development minister Deepika Pandey Singh. Different reports have given different names for the minister's daughter and there has been no official confirmation, so at present it is appropriate only to refer to her as the daughter of minister Deepika Pandey Singh. Singh holds the rural development portfolio in the Jharkhand government, and her family has been devastated by the incident.

Following the accident, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and health minister Dr Irfan Ansari expressed condolences. Chief Minister Soren conveyed his condolences to minister Deepika Pandey Singh and to the families of the others who died in the accident.
