Buldhana farmers have until December 15 to insure rabi wheat, gram and onion crops

The date for farmers in Buldhana district to take crop insurance for the rabi season has been announced. The agriculture department said the last date to insure wheat (irrigated), gram and rabi onion is December 15, 2026. Registration for summer groundnut can be done until March 31, 2027.

The state government is running the revised Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana so that farmers get financial support and are not left in a worse position if crops are damaged by natural calamities, bad weather and several other causes. The scheme applies for one year, covering kharif 2026 and the rabi season 2026-27. It covers notified crops in notified areas.

Four crops are included in the scheme for the rabi season 2026-27: wheat (irrigated), gram, rabi onion and summer groundnut. Farmers in the notified revenue circles or areas can take part. Joining the scheme is voluntary for both loanee and non-loanee farmers.

Loanee farmers who wish to join must apply in the prescribed form through the bank that sanctioned their loan. Those who do not wish to join must inform the bank in writing at least seven days before the last date of registration.

Superintending Agriculture Officer Santosh Dabre has appealed to as many farmers in the district as possible to join the scheme and insure their crops in the rabi season.

According to the agriculture department, drought-like conditions have developed because of the El Nino effect. Insurance cover is therefore important to guard against possible crop losses and the financial distress they cause. Farmers should register in time, without waiting for the last date, and take advantage of the scheme. In Buldhana district, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is being implemented by Bajaj General Insurance Limited. The insurance premium per hectare has been fixed for farmers of the district: Rs 112.50 for wheat (irrigated), Rs 180 for gram and Rs 4,750 for rabi onion.
