The body of a 37-year-old man who went missing after suspected jump from Takmak Tok at Raigad Fort has been spotted in an 800-foot gorge.
The body of a 37-year-old man who went missing on suspicion of having jumped from Takmak Tok at Raigad Fort has finally been found. The rescue team spotted it in a gorge about 800 feet deep below Takmak Tok, on the Nizampur side. Efforts to bring the body out of the gorge safely are still on.
According to available information, the man had come to Raigad Fort on Saturday. He then called home and said he was about to take an extreme step. Soon after the call ended, his mobile phone was switched off. As the family could not reach him, they became anxious and rushed to the foot of Raigad. There they found his two-wheeler parked, but he was nowhere to be found. The family then informed the police.
On receiving the information, Mahad taluka police, local residents and an emergency rescue team reached Raigad. The search continued in the area till late at night. However, it was pitch dark, the fog was very dense and the gorge below Takmak Tok is extremely dangerous. For safety reasons, the search was halted for the night.
On Sunday morning, the rescue team resumed the search. The gorge spreads over a large area and its terrain is difficult, so drone cameras were used this time. Scanning with the drones, the team saw the man's body in the gorge about 800 feet deep in the direction of Nizampur.
The body has been located, but bringing it up is a major challenge for the team. Where the body lies, the undergrowth is thick, the slope is very steep and the gorge is deep. The rescue work is therefore risky. The weather is not helping either, and fog and poor conditions made the search difficult as well. The rescue team is currently doing everything it can to descend into the gorge and bring the body out safely.
The reason the man took this step has not become clear so far. The police are investigating the cause behind the incident.
