BMW Motorrad's Vision CE concept, first shown at EICMA 2025, stays upright even when stopped, but the company has announced no India launch.
BMW Motorrad has filed a design patent in India for its Vision CE electric scooter concept, which was first shown at EICMA 2025. The concept looks unlike ordinary scooters, has self-balancing technology and a cage-like structure meant to protect the rider.
A design patent filed in India does not mean the scooter will be launched soon. The company has so far made no final announcement about its production or launch in India.
The Vision CE's most distinctive feature is a padded tubular frame built around the rider. It is meant to give extra protection from the front, both sides and above. The structure differs from conventional two-wheelers and offers a new idea for city commuting in the future.
The concept also has a special seat with a seatbelt. The company has floated the idea of using the structure to reduce dependence on conventional riding gear. But this is only a design idea. Riders would still need to wear a helmet and other safety gear required by law.
Because of the self-balancing technology, the scooter is designed to keep its balance on its own even when stationary. The idea is that at a signal, the rider would not need to put a foot on the ground as on an ordinary two-wheeler.
The idea could be useful for riders who struggle to handle their vehicles in city crowds, stop-and-go traffic and slow speeds. However, the company has not yet given full details of how the system would work in an actual production model.
On design, the concept has a long wheelbase, a low roof-like structure and large disc-style wheels. White and black colours with red accents give it a distinct look. It shows a centrally mounted electric motor and a belt drive. Details of battery capacity, motor power, charging time and range on a single charge have not been released. The price has not been disclosed either, so it cannot be estimated.
The filing suggests BMW is protecting the intellectual property in the concept's design. But a patent is not a sales announcement. There is currently no firm information on when the Vision CE will launch in India or whether it will go into production.
