The play "Shridevi Mahishasuramardini" was staged at the Shardiya Navratri festival in Dombivli. It showed the glory of Adishakti and the rich mythological tradition of Indian culture, and gave the festival a distinct experience of devotion.
The performance was given by South Indian artistes from Bengaluru, who presented the whole play in a traditional art style. The audience was captivated by the blend of dance, drama, acting and devotion.
Member of Parliament Dr Shrikant Eknath Shinde said such art events help preserve culture and traditions, and that encouraging them is the need of the hour.
The play showed how Adishakti Durga took the form of Mahishasuramardini to protect the world from the tyranny of Mahishasura. The story of her unique strength and victory was presented effectively. Traditional costumes, rhythmic dance, natural acting and a devotional atmosphere gave the performance special stature. The artistes conveyed the might, valour and message of victory in the mythological tale through art, and made the audience feel the cultural values of Indian tradition.
The Navratri festival is being held under the guidance of MP Dr Shrikant Eknath Shinde. Through the Navkundatmak Sahasrachandi Mahayag, Haripath, bhajans, devotional music and several cultural programmes, religious and cultural traditions are being revived. In this confluence of faith, devotion and culture, the play by the South Indian artistes added further to the cultural splendour. The event also underlined the message that arts that safeguard India's rich cultural heritage should be encouraged and carried to the new generation.
In today's modern, technology-driven age there are many forms of entertainment, yet traditional arts have held their own place. These arts have the power not only to entertain but also to pass on to the next generation the cultural heritage, faith and values that have been preserved across generations. It is therefore important that such traditional arts get a stage, that artistes are encouraged and that art traditions are promoted. The play helps the new generation recognise Indian mythological tradition and strengthens pride in their cultural heritage.
