An accused in a robbery at Prithvirajnagar, under Beltarodi police station limits in Nagpur district, died after the incident. It had been said that a mob allegedly beat him. The case had caused a stir across the police department.

The police have now been given some relief. After the post-mortem, the doctor has given preliminary information that the accused died of a heart attack. DCP Rashmita Rao clarified that the robbery did take place, but no evidence has been found at the premises of any beating severe enough to kill the robber.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Two men wearing Swiggy delivery T-shirts entered the house of Usha Dharmik, a resident of Prithvirajnagar, on the pretext of delivering a parcel. They held a large knife to her neck and asked her to hand over her gold jewellery.

Her daughter-in-law was also threatened. Citing her children, she went into a room and shut the door. She informed her husband about the incident. Meanwhile, the accused snatched Usha's mangalsutra. Half of it came into their hands and both fled.

Usha's sons reached the house and, along with people from the premises, began searching for the accused. Sumedh Rajendra Gajbhiye (28) and Deepak Patil were caught within the premises. It is said that some people also beat them.

Deepak then escaped, but Sumedh was surrounded. Police reached the spot, caught him and took him to the police station. According to DCP Rao, police had reached the spot as soon as they got the news. When Sumedh was taken to the police station, there was no mark of injury on his body.

He was then sent for a medical examination. On the way his condition worsened, and at about 4.20 pm a doctor declared him dead. Footage from all CCTV cameras at the premises and the police station was examined, but no evidence of Sumedh being beaten was found anywhere.

The entry and exit footage of Beltarodi police station, as well as the footage inside, was also checked. He had also been taken to the station house officer's chamber, and until then he was completely normal. Soon after inspecting the scene, the DCP examined Sumedh's body and found no mark of injury anywhere. The doctor has now said the death was due to a heart attack.
