Congress warns of agitation if NHAI fails to fix Rajura highway problems
Congress district president and former MLA Subhash Dhote has urged NHAI to resolve pending highway issues in Rajura at once or face an intense agitation.
Congress has warned the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) over unresolved problems on the national highway at Rajura. Subhash Dhote, the party's district president and a former MLA, appealed for the work to be taken up urgently and made it clear that an intense agitation would follow if the problems were not solved.
Farmers, residents and motorists in Rajura town and the surrounding rural areas are suffering because of the highway work. A key meeting with NHAI officials had been held in August to find a solution. Subhash Dhote, MP Pratibha Dhanorkar and mayor Arun Dhote attended it. Congress said many issues remain pending even after that meeting.
The meeting had discussed in detail the pending issues of Rajura town and the rural areas, and the officials concerned had been given the necessary instructions. Congress says many issues are still as they were, and the party has therefore now taken an aggressive stand.
A list of the difficulties faced by residents has emerged. The Rajura-Bamani road is in a poor state. Paver block work under way along the highway is of poor quality. Speed breakers are dangerous, and service roads are incomplete and substandard. The list also includes farmland affected by the highway, difficulties for farmers and residents in moving about, and obstructions to traffic. These problems are causing residents considerable hardship.
The underpass near the Rajura railway line, problems around the bus stand area and the local traffic system disrupted by the highway also need urgent attention. Despite repeated representations, meetings and discussions, work on the ground has not picked up the expected pace, and residents are running out of patience.
Dhote said the administration should not keep issues pending by giving only assurances. He demanded that the instructions given at the meeting be implemented at once and residents' difficulties removed. He warned that if NHAI did not resolve the local problems quickly, the Congress would take to the streets for an intense agitation for citizens' rights.
Residents of Rajura town and the rural areas are now watching what action NHAI takes on these issues and how quickly the pending work moves.
