Banks will be closed on six days in the week starting Monday, with Diwali-related holidays differing by city and state; online banking, UPI and ATMs will keep working.

A new week of November begins tomorrow, and banks will be closed on a total of six days during it. Public sector and private banks, including State Bank of India and HDFC Bank, will be shut on different days in different cities and states. It is therefore advisable to finish any urgent bank work beforehand.

Under Reserve Bank of India rules, all banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month and on every Sunday. This is in addition to the fixed holidays. Bank branches will be closed on these days, but digital services such as online banking, net banking and apps will keep running.

Banks across the country close according to national and gazetted holidays, local festivals and the needs of individual states. For this reason, banks will not be closed in all states together this week. Holidays have been declared in different cities according to local tradition.

Monday, November 9, is a holiday for Diwali, Lakshmi Puja and Govardhan Puja. Banks in the Agartala, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow and Raipur zones will be closed.

Tuesday, November 10, is Diwali Bali Pratipada and Vikram Samvat New Year. Banks in Ahmedabad, Belapur (Navi Mumbai), Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Mumbai and Nagpur will be closed.

On Wednesday, November 11, on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, Chitragupta Jayanti and Ningol Chakkouba, bank branches in Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Shimla will be closed.

Friday, November 13, is Wangala festival. Because of a local holiday in Meghalaya, banks will be closed only in Shillong, while those in the rest of the country will remain open.

November 14 is the second Saturday. Under RBI rules, all public sector and private banks across the country will be closed that day. On Sunday, November 15, banks across the country will be closed for the weekly holiday.

Even when branches are closed, online and digital banking services and ATMs will remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. UPI can be used for money transfers during this time. These services continue whether banks are open or closed. However, they may occasionally be halted briefly for repair and maintenance, and banks will inform customers of this.

Money can also be sent through NEFT and RTGS transfer forms, demand draft request forms and cheque book forms. ATMs can be used to withdraw cash.
