Close on the heels of the SBI data leak case, reports of another bank's information being compromised have emerged. Some confidential information of the private sector HDFC Bank is said to have been leaked, which has raised concern among the bank's customers.

The bank has begun an internal inquiry, and its internal review committee is looking into the leak. It is not yet clear what information, and how much of it, was leaked, or who may have been responsible.

A bank spokesperson said efforts were under way to gather all relevant facts in keeping with the bank's policies.

It has been reported that two senior HDFC Bank officers passed the bank's business strategies and sensitive information to outsiders. The effect is now being seen on the stock market. The two officers held major responsibilities, including some key businesses and departments of the bank. When senior officers grew suspicious, they began looking into the matter, and the two officers were identified in that process.

The spokesperson said the internal inquiry was continuing. The bank is collecting and examining all facts and information related to the matter, and the spokesperson said appropriate action would be taken on the basis of the findings once the inquiry is complete. The bank, however, declined to give any details of the findings or of the officers involved. It is also examining whether the confidential information that was shared was misused.

Earlier, a data leak from the State Bank of India (SBI) had been reported. Personal information of about 3,897 of the bank's customers was found on the dark web, including their names, mobile numbers, dates of birth, email addresses and loan-related details.
