Kunal Mukundrao Wagh allegedly jumped into the Pench project's right canal on Nagpur-Kamptee Road; police have registered a case.
Nagpur: A 38-year-old furniture carpenter allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday by jumping into the water-filled right canal of the Pench irrigation project near Ghorpad village on Nagpur-Kamptee Road. He was reportedly mentally distressed over a quarrel at home and separation from his wife and young son.
The deceased has been identified as Kunal Mukundrao Wagh, who lived near Bhawani Mandir in Pardi. The incident has left the entire neighbourhood in shock.
According to police, Kunal worked in wooden furniture and lived with his mother and two brothers. About a month ago, after a quarrel at home, his wife went to her parents' home with their two-and-a-half-year-old son. It is said that the separation had left Kunal broken from within.
On Wednesday morning, at around 8 am, Kunal left home after telling his mother. At around noon, he allegedly jumped into the Pench project's right canal, which runs alongside Nagpur-Kamptee Road within the limits of Ghorpad village.
Some passers-by saw him jump into the canal and immediately informed New Kamptee police. On receiving the information, PSI Satish Pawar and a team of the Kamptee Municipal Council fire brigade reached the spot and began a search. The team included officers Akshay Tirpude, Amit Borkar, Rahul Rangari, Praful Gharde and Rupesh Pipalpagare.
After considerable effort, Kunal's body was found about 200 metres downstream from the spot where he had allegedly jumped.
Kamptee police conducted the panchnama and sent the body for postmortem to the Kamptee sub-district hospital. Kunal's brothers reached the spot on learning of the incident.
Police have registered a case on the family's complaint. PSI Satish Pawar is conducting further investigation under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Andhale.
