Pune: The Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL), billed as the world's first franchise-based supercross competition, has completed the registration of riders for its third season. A total of 146 riders from 21 countries have signed up across the league's four racing classes.
Renowned international riders will take part, along with leading supercross riders from India.
A new class has been introduced this season: '250cc - Group A Foreign Bikes Only Indian Futures'. Including this class and the '250cc India Asia Mix' class, 30 registrations have come from India.
By country, the largest number of riders, 32, are from France, followed by 20 from Australia and 18 from the United States.
Riders from Indonesia, Thailand, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Canada, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Mongolia will also compete.
Class-wise, the '450cc International' class has 40 riders, the '250cc International' class 54 and the '250cc India-Asia Mix' class 26. The registrations suggest this year's competition will be more diverse and keenly contested.
Ishan Lokhande, co-founder and director of the league, said that as the league expands, the focus will remain on building a professional sporting set-up that attracts world-class riders and gives Indian riders a chance to prove their ability.
Matt Moss, winner of the second ISRL season, said, "Winning the ISRL title two times in a row is an unforgettable experience for me. The standard of this competition is rising with every season. The competition is getting tougher, and one has to work extremely hard for every success here."
