A new complication has arisen over the election of the chairman of the Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union, known as Gokul. A quorum of 14 directors must be present at the board meeting, so there is discussion in Kolhapur's political and cooperative circles on whether this rule could become an obstacle in the chairman's election.

Meanwhile, MLA Satej Patil, leader of the Rajarshi Shahu Samvichari Shetkari Aghadi, which won a majority in Gokul, has made a significant and pointed statement. Patil said that if the cooperative sector is to uphold its ideals, everyone should attend the chairman election meeting, not get entangled in technical issues, and respect the majority the people have given. This, he said, is his request.

Patil made it clear that the 25 directors together will run Gokul's affairs well. He said everyone would work together in unity to take the institution forward and that the hope is that there will be no need to go to another election. According to him, the Gokul result is out and the majority is on his side. He also said a man can win even by one vote.

Patil also said that whether it is Mushrif or Kore, who work in the cooperative sector, the effect could be seen in Maharashtra tomorrow. He therefore said he is confident that everyone will be present at the meeting on the 29th and complete its quorum.

Patil had made a major announcement about the chairman's post even before the election. He had named Shashikant Patil Chuyekar, son of the late Anandrao Patil Chuyekar, the founder of Gokul. He said that if the son of the man who built up the institution becomes Gokul's chairman, everything will be well. He said not everyone will do nothing, but he is positive about this.

The election for the post of Gokul chairman is to be held on October 29. Shashikant Patil Chuyekar is the son of the late founder chairman Anandrao Patil Chuyekar. Last time his name had been decided, yet he did not get the chairman's post. At that time, Shashikant Patil Chuyekar was kept out of the post because of what is described as the treacherous politics of Arun Dongle. In the political upheaval that followed, Navid Mushrif was given the chairman's post.

Keeping this sequence of events in mind, Satej Patil had announced, on entering the Gokul election, that Shashikant Patil Chuyekar would be made chairman. Sounding the election bugle, Patil had said that once in power, his side would uphold Chuyekar's honour. The gulal and garlands he had brought for the chairman's post, and the canopy he had put up, the same gulal is now to be thrown again after taking power. Thus Shashikant Patil's dream of becoming chairman is about to be fulfilled.
