Pune Times Mirror began its Mumbai edition on Friday with a puja at the Shree Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi, with no stage or fanfare.
Pune Times Mirror has launched its edition in Mumbai, the country's financial capital. Before the first story went to print, the newspaper's team sought the blessings of Lord Ganesha.
The newspaper's Mumbai innings began on Friday at the Shree Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi. There was no stage and no show. The team simply stood before Bappa with folded hands. Director Sheetal Biyani and Chief Editor Priyanka Sharma performed the puja. Following the tradition of beginning any good work at Siddhivinayak, they formally launched the Mumbai edition. After darshan, the team pledged to bring Mumbai's readers fearless, fresh and good-quality news.
Actor Jackie Shroff, known for his carefree style, welcomed the newspaper in his own way. He said, "Heartfelt congratulations to Pune Times Mirror! Our Mumbai, your Mumbai, you are warmly welcome. A launch is a big celebration for any newspaper. But Pune Times Mirror steered clear of a grand event and held its launch ceremony at a temple, and that has a special meaning of its own. Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra!"
Actor and well-known photographer Milind Gunaji also congratulated the management and the editorial team. A long-time admirer of Maharashtra's tourism and culture, Gunaji said, "My heartfelt good wishes for the Mumbai edition of Pune Times Mirror. I was very eager to hold this newspaper in my hands and read it on October 30. I am very happy that Pune Times Mirror held the launch ceremony at the Shree Siddhivinayak Temple through me." He expressed confidence that the newspaper would bring something new and interesting for Mumbai's readers.
BJP Mahila Morcha state president and MLA Chitra Wagh was present at the inauguration. After darshan she spoke to the media and praised the newspaper's new journey. She said, "As always, Pune Times Mirror should maintain its impartial journalism and raise the questions, the troubles and the rights of ordinary people forcefully. Journalism is the mirror of society, so this newspaper should work as the voice of the common people. I extend my best wishes for the new journey of Pune Times Mirror in Mumbai and for its successful path ahead."
Sheetal Biyani said, "The credibility we have built in Pune, we have to show in Mumbai too. Whether it is a major story from Mumbai-Thane or the trouble of an ordinary person living in some lane, our camera and our pen will keep watch on every event. Journalism that does not bow to anyone's pressure, that is blunt and puts the truth before the public is our identity. We will keep raising our voice until the last section of society gets justice. Pune Times Mirror will now become a fearless platform for Mumbaikars, one to which they are fully entitled. This is my promise!"
On the strength of accurate, fast and public-interest journalism, Pune Times Mirror has won the trust of Pune's readers in a short time. It is now entering Mumbai's fast-paced and crowded world. The new edition will cover the city's civic issues along with entertainment, industry, lifestyle and local news.
