Two Balewadi stations are expected to open by early December, and the full Maan-Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line by January 2027, PMRDA said.

Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Maan, Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, will be inaugurated on November 3, 2026 at the Balewadi Stadium. The event will begin at 10.30 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part virtually. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other dignitaries are expected to attend.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is building the 23.203-km elevated corridor, which will have 23 stations in all. All 23 stations will be inaugurated on November 3, not over three days. However, passenger service will initially begin on November 4 at only 17 stations.

The two stations, Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata, are expected to open at the end of November or in early December. The entire line is expected to be operational by January 2027.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 8,313 crore. It is being executed on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis under the design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) framework. PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari (IAS) said: "The additional cost will be borne by the private concessionaire and it will not affect the functioning of the government body or our passengers."

Passenger service will start at 8 am on November 4. It will be connected to Pune Metro Lines 1 and 2. The first train from Maan towards District and Sessions Court will take about two and a half hours for the journey. The last train from District and Sessions Court towards Maan will leave at 10.40 pm. At the District and Sessions Court station, passengers will be able to change between Line 3 and the existing metro network.

Twenty-two train sets will run on the line. Each set has three coaches and can carry about 1,000 passengers, including standing passengers. Trains will run every six minutes at peak hours and every 10 to 12 minutes at other times.

Passengers can buy tickets through the Maha Metro Pune 1 app, WhatsApp tickets, station counters and ticket vending machines. Existing Maha Metro smart cards will also be accepted.

To make the last leg from the station to home easier, PMPML bus services and feeder connections are being planned. Discussions are under way with MIDC, auto-rickshaw associations and private operators on additional routes, including a link from Ramwadi to Kharadi IT Park.

As of October 2026, 98.20 per cent of the physical work on the project has been completed. About 340 security personnel have been deployed at the 17 stations.
