The Pune Municipal Corporation has barred M/s Shubham Ashok Khatode from new civic work after a 69-year-old died when an autorickshaw fell into an open sewer pit.
Pune, October 31, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has blacklisted contractor M/s Shubham Ashok Khatode after an elderly man died in an accident at an excavation site in Yerawada. The contractor can no longer take up any new civic work in any department, including roads, buildings, sewers and water supply. It means the contractor will not be allowed to take part in upcoming works of any PMC department in the city.
The blacklisting order was issued by the municipal commissioner. The contractor had earlier been served a show-cause notice. His reply to the notice and the hearing before the commissioner on October 26 were both found unsatisfactory. The action followed.
The contractor had been given work under the Kalyani Nagar Sewerage District (SD-12). The work involved replacing old, low-capacity sewer lines with larger-diameter pipelines.
The accident took place on October 17 near Chitra Theatre in Yerawada. A pit had been dug there for the sewer line work and was lying open. An autorickshaw hit the open pit and fell into it. Pradip Laxman Pardeshi, 69, a resident of Kharadi, died in the accident.
After the incident, the corporation sent the contractor a show-cause notice seeking an explanation. However, officials were satisfied neither with his written reply nor with the submissions he made during the hearing. The blacklisting action was taken for this reason.
