Pune, October 31, 2026: Padma Shri awardee and noted folk singer Prahlad Singh Tipanya performed his well-known musical programme 'Kal Ke Kabir' in Pune on Wednesday. The event was held at the amphitheatre of the Lalit Kala Kendra Gurukul on the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) campus.
The programme was organised jointly by two institutions. One was the Head, Heart, Hands Learning Foundation (H3LF), a non-profit working in Waldorf-inspired education. The other was Lalit Kala Kendra (LKK) Gurukul, an institution dedicated to the performing arts.
Tipanya is known for taking the poetry of Sant Kabir to people through the Malwi folk tradition. He was accompanied by a troupe of five members. With traditional instruments such as the tambura and the kartal, the artistes sang verses of Kabir. The compositions spoke of love, equality, humanity and social harmony.
Presented in a simple folk style, the performance brought Kabir's philosophical words easily to ordinary listeners. The audience also got a chance to reflect on the divisions in society and on human relationships.
According to the organisers, the partnership between H3LF and Lalit Kala Kendra reflects a shared outlook in the two institutions. Both stress education, cultural awareness and all-round development.
H3LF teaches children and adolescents through experience. Alongside academics, it pays attention to cultural and social understanding. Lalit Kala Kendra, for its part, carries on the gurukul tradition and advances the performing arts by linking it with modern university education.
A school leader of H3LF said, "At H3LF, we believe education is not confined to the classroom. It is about understanding our roots, discovering our shared humanity, and nurturing the 'heart' along with the 'head' and the 'hands'."
The school leader added, "Inviting a stalwart like Prahladji together with an esteemed institution such as Lalit Kala Kendra is a beautiful expression of this thinking. Kabir's truth and his message of taking everyone along is exactly what our youth and the whole of society need today."
The programme was open to the public. A large number of people interested in Indian folk music, philosophy and cultural traditions gathered for it.
