Passengers on Pune Metro Line 3 may pay a maximum fare of Rs 62 for journeys beyond 18 km, against Rs 35 on the existing network.
Pune, November 1, 2026: Commuters on Pune Metro Line 3, being built between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, may have to pay considerably more than on the existing Pune Metro. The proposed maximum fare for journeys longer than 18 km has been set at Rs 62. The maximum fare on the existing metro network is Rs 35.
The proposed fare structure for Line 3 has been drawn up in line with the concession agreement with the private concessionaire. Under the proposed slabs, a journey of up to 2 km will cost Rs 12. The fare will be Rs 25 for 2 to 4 km, Rs 37 for 4 to 8 km, Rs 43 for 8 to 12 km and Rs 49 for 12 to 18 km. Journeys of more than 18 km will cost Rs 62.
The base fare for the first 2 km is Rs 10. The calculated starting fare was Rs 12.36, which has been rounded off to Rs 12 for collection. Fares in the other distance slabs have also been rounded to the nearest rupee.
Dr Abhijit Chaudhari, Metropolitan Commissioner of the PMRDA, explained the difference in fares. According to him, the existing Pune Metro was built with government funding, while Metro Line 3 is being built on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Chaudhari said the Line 3 fare has been fixed in accordance with the concession agreement for the project. He also said the proposed fare is not high compared with other metro projects built on the PPP model.
Anilkumar Saini, Chief Executive Officer of IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), said the proposed fare structure will be reviewed after six months and a decision taken accordingly. He also said the company expects about 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh passengers to travel on Pune Metro Line 3 every day.
The existing Pune Metro currently has a minimum fare of Rs 10 and a maximum of Rs 35. Under its published 2026 fare structure, the fare is Rs 20 for 2 to 4 km, Rs 25 for 4 to 8 km and Rs 30 for 8 to 16 km. The fare rises with distance.
With the proposed maximum of Rs 62, passengers on the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar corridor could pay nearly double the highest fare on the existing Pune Metro. The gap emerges as Line 3 prepares to begin passenger service. Its fare has been fixed under the PPP concession agreement.
