Maha Metro expects 50,000 to 75,000 more commuters, in phases over the next few months, once Line 3 from Maan to District Court opens.

Pune, November 3, 2026: Ridership on Pune's existing metro lines is expected to rise sharply once Metro Line 3, from Maan to District Court, opens. Maha Metro has estimated that 50,000 to 75,000 additional passengers will shift to the metro in phases over the next few months.

The new Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line will connect with the other lines at Civil Court station. As passengers will be able to change trains at this station, they will be able to move easily between all three metro lines. Footfall is therefore likely to increase on the Vanaz-Ramwadi and Swargate-PCMC lines.

Maha Metro officials said that train frequency on both operating lines would be increased as passenger numbers grow. At present, a train runs every five minutes on these lines. The officials also said the current system is capable of running trains more often than that.

A foot overbridge has been built at Civil Court station to make it easier for passengers to move from one line to another. However, passengers will initially have to buy separate tickets for the two networks. An integrated online ticketing system is expected to be introduced once the new line opens.

Between 2.3 lakh and 2.5 lakh passengers travel daily on the two operating lines. The new connection is expected to push this figure higher.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Metro Line 3, Maan to District Court, virtually on Tuesday. He will also lay the foundation stone for four proposed metro lines with a combined length of about 45 km. The projects include the Vanaz-Chandni Chowk, Ramwadi-Vitthalwadi, Nal Stop-Manik Baug and Kharadi-Khadakwasla lines.
