Traffic police have banned heavy vehicles and buses on the road from Chandani Chowk towards Kothrud as work begins on the next phase of the Vanaz-Chandani Chowk Metro extension.

Commuters travelling from Chandani Chowk towards Kothrud will face traffic changes as work begins on the next phase of the Pune Metro's Vanaz to Chandani Chowk extension. Heavy vehicles and buses have been barred from entering the stretch, including State Transport and private passenger buses. Pune traffic police have asked drivers to use alternative routes.

As part of the Metro extension work, iron barricades will be placed on both sides of the road divider between Vanaz Metro station and Chandani Chowk. The restrictions have been imposed so that construction can proceed smoothly and vehicle movement on the stretch remains controlled.

A separate height barrier is also planned near Prathamesh Elite Society on the road from Chandani Chowk to the Kothrud depot. The road has a steep slope, and the barrier will be put up to keep heavy vehicles from entering the stretch.

Pune traffic police have told the drivers of dumpers, concrete mixers and goods vehicles, as well as of MSRTC and private passenger buses, not to proceed directly from Chandani Chowk towards the Kothrud depot. None of these vehicles will be allowed on this road.

Instead, police have suggested that these vehicles reach their destinations via Chandani Chowk, Dukkar Khind, Warje, Karvenagar, Karve Road and Paud Phata Chowk.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare has appealed to drivers to follow the diverted route and avoid the restricted road.

With Metro construction advancing on the Vanaz to Chandani Chowk stretch, motorists and bus drivers have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow the traffic police's instructions, so that inconvenience and congestion are reduced.
