Pune Traffic Police have banned heavy vehicles and passenger buses on the Chandni Chowk-Kothrud Depot road as Metro extension work begins.

Kothrud, October 28, 2026: Work on the Metro extension between Vanaz and Chandni Chowk has begun. Pune Traffic Police have since barred heavy vehicles and passenger buses from moving from Chandni Chowk towards Kothrud Depot. According to the police, the restriction has been imposed so that construction can proceed smoothly and road safety is maintained along the entire stretch.

Under the Metro extension project, metal barricades are being installed on both sides of the road divider between Vanaz Metro Station and Chandni Chowk. The road from Chandni Chowk towards Kothrud Depot has a steep gradient. A height barrier will be installed in front of Prathamesh Elite Society to keep heavy vehicles from entering this section.

The ban applies to dumpers, concrete mixers, goods vehicles, buses of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and private passenger buses. Traffic police have appealed to drivers to avoid the restricted route and use other roads.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare has advised motorists to reach their destinations by the alternative route via Chandni Chowk, Dukkar Khind, Warje, Karvenagar, Karve Road and Paud Phata Chowk.

Meanwhile, another Metro project has also begun in the city. Construction of the underground Metro corridor between Swargate and Katraj has started. To facilitate this work, traffic police have made changes to traffic arrangements in the Satara Road and Market Yard areas.

Separately, residents have expressed concern over traffic jams near Bhapkar Chowk on Satara Road. They allege that vehicles parked in front of City Pride cinema are obstructing movement.
