Kothrud, October 26, 2026: BJP MP and senior party leader Medha Kulkarni has pulled up the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). She alleged that the civic body failed to stop unauthorised digging, tree felling and construction on a hill adjoining Swami Vivekanandnagar in Kothrud.
Residents had complained that large-scale digging was under way, trees were being cut and construction was also going on. Following these complaints, Kulkarni visited the spot with officials of the PMC's building department and took stock of the situation.
Kulkarni said hills are very important to the city environmentally. According to her, cases of hill cutting, tree felling and illegal construction are rising steadily, damaging Pune's natural heritage. She alleged that although such activities had come to the administration's notice, it could not intervene in time.
She warned, "No attempt to damage the hills or any haphazard construction will be tolerated." She also demanded that the civic administration take immediate and firm action against those responsible.
The PMC administration, for its part, clarified that the land in question is privately owned. According to the administration, no permission had been taken for digging on the hill.
PMC officials said the illegal structure at the site has been demolished and action has been initiated against the person concerned. Seeking action in the matter, the PMC has also written to the tehsildar concerned.
