Vanrai police pulled out a truck driver trapped in a crushed cabin near the Nesco Exhibition Centre in Goregaon on the morning of October 30.

A major accident occurred on the highway near the Nesco Exhibition Centre in Goregaon on the morning of October 30. A truck rammed into a dumper and its cabin was badly crushed. The driver, Vinod Kumar Yadav, was trapped inside. The truck's registration number is MH-47-AS-7023. Vanrai police showed presence of mind and courage in pulling him out.

The impact was so severe that the truck's front bumper, steering wheel and cabin were pushed in towards the driver's seat. Both of Yadav's legs were caught between twisted sheets of metal. He also suffered injuries from broken glass and had difficulty breathing inside the wreckage.

On receiving news of the accident, police vehicles Mobile-1, Mobile-3 and Marshal-2 reached the spot. Police Inspector Subhashchandra Poschar, who was patrolling the area on night duty, also arrived immediately.

An officer said, "The situation was serious. Both doors of the truck were badly damaged and would not open. The driver's condition appeared to be worsening, so the policemen decided not to wait for the fire brigade. They carefully entered the cabin through the broken front windscreen. They sprinkled water on the driver's face to keep him conscious and kept reassuring him while trying to pull him out."

When attempts to remove the crushed metal by hand failed, the policemen improvised a method. They took a rope kept in the truck. They tied one end to a police vehicle and the other to the crushed part on the driver's side. The metal still did not budge. The police then sought help from the driver of another truck passing by.

The rope was tied to his truck. The police and that truck driver worked in coordination to pull the crushed section outward. This created enough space to bring out the trapped driver.

Another officer said, "We carefully took Yadav out and took him in a police vehicle to a trauma care hospital, where doctors began emergency treatment. His condition is said to be stable." According to the police, Yadav is conscious and recovering.

The operation was completed through the combined effort of Senior PI Abdul Rauf Ghani Shaikh, Vanrai police's night-duty Police Inspector Subhashchandra Poschar, personnel of the Mobile-1, Mobile-3 and Marshal-2 teams, and the driver and operator of the second truck.

The rescue caused a heavy traffic jam on the highway. The damaged truck was also carrying perishable goods, so there was concern that the cargo could rot if the truck stayed in place for long. Police managed the traffic and called a towing vehicle to remove the truck from the highway. Arrangements were also made to remove and dispose of the perishable goods.
