Director of Education Dr Mahesh Palkar has told divisional officers to admit such students online to Class XII and report within seven days, with Rs 5,000-per-student fines on institutions.

To ensure that students who took offline admission to Class XI in academic year 2025-26 do not lose out on their studies, Director of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary) Dr Mahesh Palkar has issued a directive. Under it, such students are to be given online admission to Class XII in academic year 2026-27 and regularised. They are also to be allowed to sit the State Board Class XII examination.

Dr Palkar has asked all divisional deputy directors of education to complete the entire process and submit a report within seven days.

Schools and junior colleges that gave offline admissions to Class XI in violation of the central admission system set by the state government should be asked for a written reply. Dr Palkar also said that at these institutions, students' regular attendance, physical facilities, classrooms and matters required under the Right to Education Act should be verified. A report should then be sent to the Directorate of Education.

On examinations, the directive says students admitted offline should be seated at an exam centre other than their school's regular centre.

Schools and junior colleges that gave illegal offline admissions should be fined Rs 5,000 per student. The fine must not be recovered from any student. If this is found to be happening, strict action should be taken against the institution concerned.

Responsibility should be fixed on the headmaster or principal concerned for giving offline admissions in defiance of the government decision. Strict action should also be taken against institution owners.

A warning has also been issued for the future. If schools or junior colleges that gave offline admissions in academic year 2025-26 again give offline admissions to Class XI in 2026-27, a separate proposal for strict action against them should be sent to the Directorate of Education.
