Mumbai had a hot, humid Thursday with both weather stations above 36 degrees Celsius, while the city's overall AQI of 104 fell in the moderate category.
Mumbai had hot and humid weather on Thursday, November 5. Daytime temperatures in the city remained high. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mostly clear skies for Mumbai and its suburbs.
On air quality, Mumbai's overall AQI was recorded at 104 on Thursday morning. The figures come from the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app. Under the national AQI classification, a reading between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory and one between 101 and 200 moderate. By that measure, an AQI of 104 places Mumbai's air in the moderate category.
The AQI classification is based on the quantity of pollutants in the air and their likely effect on health. The moderate category means people with lung disease, asthma and other breathing problems may feel discomfort while breathing.
According to IMD data for November 5, the minimum temperature was 26 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 22.7 degrees Celsius at Santacruz. No rain was recorded at either weather station, meaning the city stayed dry. The forecast of mostly clear skies also suggests that the weather in Mumbai will remain largely dry.
The day's maximum temperature was 36.9 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 36.4 degrees Celsius at Santacruz. Despite the absence of rain, heat and humidity persisted in the city, and the mercury stayed above 36 degrees Celsius at both stations.
Air quality was not uniform across the city. Pollution was recorded at moderate levels at several monitoring stations. In the figures given, the highest AQI was 152 at Bandra-Kurla Complex. Worli recorded 121 and Colaba 116. The AQI was 114 in Andheri and 107 in Deonar. Borivali's AQI was 84, which falls in the satisfactory category. Though the city's overall AQI was moderate, pollution levels differed across its parts.
Air readings also varied across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Thane recorded an AQI of 74, which is satisfactory. Navi Mumbai's AQI was 129, in the moderate category. Kalyan's AQI was 94, also in the satisfactory category.
