A man accused of killing his best friend in Dombivli surrendered about 20 days later; police then recovered the body near a creek and arrested his landlord.

A man accused of murdering his best friend in Dombivli surrendered before the Thane crime branch, about 20 days after the incident. The accused has been identified as Prabhu Karkade. According to police, he was troubled by dreams of the friend he had killed.

Following Karkade's statement, police found a body dumped near a creek in Dombivli West. It was that of 42-year-old Vishal Kadam. Police have arrested Karkade and his landlord, Mhatre. Mhatre is accused of helping to dispose of Kadam's body in the Mothagaon area of Dombivli West.

The incident took place about 20 days ago. Mhatre had a rented room in a chawl, where Karkade and Kadam were sitting together drinking alcohol. An argument broke out between the two and soon turned into a fight. During the quarrel, Karkade allegedly attacked Kadam's arms and legs. Kadam died of the injuries. Karkade then left the body lying in the bathroom overnight.

Mhatre was not in the room when this happened. When he went to the room the next morning, Karkade told him about Kadam's death. Instead of informing the police, Mhatre helped dispose of the body to avoid being drawn into the case.

After the incident, Karkade lost sleep at night and began dreaming of Kadam. For this reason, he decided to go to the Thane crime branch office near Court Naka, surrender and confess to killing Kadam.

After the confession, the crime branch alerted Vishnu Nagar police station, as the area falls under its jurisdiction. Police teams then recovered the body and arrested Mhatre.

Police said both accused worked washing cars and supplying vegetables. They were produced in the Kalyan court on Tuesday, November 3.
