Parts of Mumbai received rain in the early hours of Saturday, October 31. It was the second consecutive day of rain in the city. The sky remained cloudy, though not completely overcast.
According to weather data recorded on Saturday morning, night temperatures stayed above normal. The minimum temperature at Colaba was 27.2 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees above normal. Santacruz recorded a minimum of 25.2 degrees Celsius, also 2.9 degrees above normal.
There was no let-up in the daytime heat either. The maximum temperature was 35.2 degrees Celsius at Santacruz and 36.1 degrees Celsius at Colaba. Clouds, rain in some areas and a night temperature above normal together defined Saturday's weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places in some districts. Light to moderate rain and strong winds are possible. Wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour are expected in several districts, while gusts in some parts of Vidarbha could reach 40 to 50 km per hour.
On air quality, data provided for the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app put Mumbai's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 62 on Saturday morning. Under the national AQI categories, a reading between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory and one between 101 and 200 moderate. The citywide figure was therefore in the satisfactory range.
However, the AQI reached the moderate category at several monitoring stations. Malad and Mazgaon both recorded an AQI of 104, while Shivaji Nagar recorded 103.
Readings were lower in other parts of the city. Worli recorded an AQI of 57 and Ghatkopar 61. Andheri recorded 86. All three readings fall in the satisfactory category.
Air quality varied across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Thane recorded an AQI of 122 on Saturday, which is moderate under the national categories. Navi Mumbai recorded 90 and Kalyan 86, so both cities remained in the satisfactory range.
