Separately, State Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said earlier this month that Maharashtra will run a pilot project of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based digital platform in the Mumbai Suburban and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts. The aim is to connect job seekers with industries.
The initiative, named "Blue Dot AI Economy", aims to match candidates' skills with the needs of industry, especially in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It is expected to make hiring easier and improve employment opportunities.
To implement the pilot, the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation has signed a non-financial memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the EkStep Foundation. The department has also signed an MoU with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to strengthen skill development, employability and overseas employment opportunities in the state.
According to the state government, the Blue Dot AI Economy platform, built by the EkStep Foundation, is based on the principles of digital public infrastructure. It is designed to identify local demand and supply of employment according to each person's needs and locality.
The platform will cover areas such as livelihoods, education and training, MSMEs and the economic participation of persons with disabilities. It is expected to connect citizens, entrepreneurs, industries and institutions so that local skills, resources and economic opportunities can be better used.
The government said it will consider taking the project forward only after assessing the results of the pilot. Funding has been proposed for the initiative.
