A video of a leopard roaming near a residential area in Mumbai's Dindoshi is spreading rapidly on social media and WhatsApp groups. Residents have expressed concern after watching it, and the sighting is widely discussed in the area.

After the video went viral, a Forest Department team reached the area and explained to residents what precautions to take if they see a leopard. Forest officials also appealed to people not to create an atmosphere of needless fear by forwarding videos without full information and context.

A Forest Department official said, "The spot where the leopard was seen is close to the forest, and such incidents are common there. We went to the area and told people what to do and what not to do. This includes informing the Forest Department if a leopard is seen."

The official also said leopards can come close to human settlements in search of stray dogs, as dogs are easy prey for them. For this reason they are sometimes seen near residential areas. People have been advised to stay calm and keep a safe distance if they come across a leopard.

The official added, "There is no need for people to panic, but if a leopard is seen, keep a safe distance from it."

Following the viral video, the Maharashtra Forest Department has asked people to remain alert. The department says that if a leopard is sighted, officials should be informed, and that videos which spread needless panic should not be circulated.

Officials stressed that for those living in areas adjoining the forest, following safety rules while living alongside wildlife is very important.
