The BMC says repairs to Compartment No. 2 at the Yewai balancing reservoir are done and it will be recommissioned on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Repair work on Compartment No. 2 of the Yewai balancing reservoir at Pise-Panjrapur, which supplies water to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has been completed. The compartment will be recommissioned on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
The BMC administration said the recommissioning process could affect water quality. The effect may be felt in Mumbai city, the eastern suburbs, and the Thane and Bhiwandi municipal corporation areas that receive water through the BMC. As a precaution, the civic body has appealed to citizens to drink only boiled and filtered water for the next seven days.
In Mumbai city, the affected wards include A Ward, covering the Naval Dockyard and the BPT premises. The entire areas of B Ward, E Ward, F South Ward and F North Ward are covered.
In the eastern suburbs, T Ward covers Mulund (East) and Mulund West. S Ward covers Bhandup, Nahur, Kanjurmarg and Vikhroli (East). N Ward covers Vikhroli, Ghatkopar (East) and Ghatkopar. L Ward covers Kurla (East). The entire areas of M East Ward and M West Ward are also counted among the affected areas.
Citizens in the areas where the BMC supplies water to the Thane and Bhiwandi municipal corporation areas, along with Mumbai city and the eastern suburbs, will also have to take the necessary care. Given the possible effect on water quality, drinking water is to be boiled and filtered for the next seven days. The administration has appealed to citizens to cooperate by following these instructions.
Following the BMC notice, the Thane Municipal Corporation has also asked citizens in the relevant parts of the city to take the necessary precautions while using water. Some parts of Thane city are supplied through water connections on the BMC's Pise-Panjrapur water main. For this reason, people in these parts should drink only boiled and filtered water for the next seven days, the corporation said.
The areas of the Thane Municipal Corporation to which the notice applies include Hajuri, Louiswadi, Kajuwadi, Jijamata Nagar, Raghunath Nagar, Namdev Wadi, Sainath Nagar, Ramchandra Nagar No. 1, Kopri-Anandnagar, Ram Maruti Road and the Masunda Talao area. Jambhli Naka, Kharkar Ali, Mahagiri, Koliwada, Patilwadi, the B-Cabin area, the Tekdi Bungalow area, Bhakti Mandir Road and Pachpakhadi are also included. Water is supplied to all these places through connections on the BMC's water main. The Thane Municipal Corporation has therefore appealed to citizens here to drink boiled and filtered water.
