Yashveer wins silver, Rohit bronze in Asian Games javelin final
Yashveer Singh claimed silver and Rohit Yadav bronze in the men's javelin throw final at the 2026 Asian Games, with Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga taking gold.
India won two medals in the men's javelin throw final at the 2026 Asian Games on Monday. Yashveer Singh won the silver medal for the country, while Rohit Yadav took the bronze. The gold in the event went to Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga.
The competition was held at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. India's Yashveer Singh finished second with his best throw of 85.72 metres, achieved in his sixth and final attempt. His previous best effort was 85.14 metres.
Looking at all of Yashveer's attempts, he threw 83.56 metres in his first attempt, 82.99 metres in his second, 82.42 metres in his third and 84.31 metres in his fourth. In his fifth attempt his javelin reached 85.14 metres, and finally in his sixth attempt he produced his best performance of 85.72 metres.
Rohit Yadav sealed the bronze medal for the country with his best throw of 84.35 metres. Rohit achieved this in his third attempt itself. Across his attempts, he threw 77.25 metres in his first attempt, 82.40 metres in his second, 84.35 metres in his third, 82.16 metres in his fourth and 82.15 metres in his fifth attempt. His sixth and final attempt was declared a foul.
Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga, who won the gold in the event, put in a superb performance. Tharanga crossed the 88-metre mark in his fourth attempt, and then produced his best performance with a throw of 88.55 metres in his sixth and final attempt.
The full details of Tharanga's attempts were as follows: he threw 73.53 metres in his first attempt, after which his javelin landed at 83.34 metres in his next attempt. His third attempt was ruled foul, after which a distance of 88.33 metres was recorded, taking him to the top of the standings. Tharanga's fifth attempt was also a foul, but in his sixth and final attempt he sealed the title with a throw of 88.55 metres.
