The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony was held in Gujarat on September 22, honouring several Bollywood artists and films. Actress Yami Gautam received the Best Actress National Award from President Droupadi Murmu for her performance in the film Article 370. This is the first time in her career that Yami has won a National Award.

Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 saw Yami Gautam play the role of intelligence officer Zooni Haksar, for which she won the Best Actress award. Her happiness was clearly visible on her face while receiving the award, as it marked the first National Award of her acting career.

Yami's husband, director Aditya Dhar, was also present at the award ceremony. As Yami received the Best Actress award, both joy and pride were visible on Aditya Dhar's face. The moment was captured on camera, and videos of it are currently going viral on social media, showing Aditya Dhar getting emotional as his wife received her first National Award.

Article 370 also won a National Award as a film, in addition to Yami Gautam's acting award, making the ceremony even more special for her and the entire team.

In Article 370, Yami played Zooni Haksar, an NIA officer. The film's story revolves around an officer involved in a secret mission in Kashmir. Zooni Haksar is a fictional character, but the film's story is based on events around the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of intelligence operations, political decisions and a major security mission, with Yami's character playing a key role throughout.
