Wardha's Damini squad gets new bikes, launches women's safety helpline
Wardha police handed new two-wheelers to the Damini squad and launched a WhatsApp helpline for women's safety
The Damini squad of the Wardha district Superintendent of Police's office has received new two-wheelers, which will strengthen women's safety patrols in the city. On September 10, 2026, a handover ceremony for the vehicles was held in the presence of District Collector Vanmathi C, Superintendent of Police Saurabhkumar Agrawal, Additional Superintendent of Police Sadashiv Waghmare and other dignitaries. All the vehicles have been distributed to different police stations across the district.
Women personnel of the Damini squad, deployed at the police station level and at the Superintendent of Police's office, are now using these vehicles to carry out continuous patrols at crowded places, hostels, markets, bus stands, areas outside schools and colleges, gardens and secluded spots. During the ongoing Ganeshotsav, the team has been visiting every Ganesh mandal to distribute awareness pamphlets and is also informing people about the WhatsApp helpline during patrolling.
In addition, the Damini squad is visiting various schools, colleges and hostels to create awareness among women and girls there on topics such as cyber safety, good touch-bad touch, traffic rules, the harmful effects of substance abuse and human trafficking.
The "Damini" WhatsApp helpline number 7620520025 was inaugurated by the District Collector of Wardha, the Superintendent of Police of Wardha and the Additional Superintendent of Police. Sub-Inspector Madhuri Waghade, who heads the Bharosa Cell and the Damini squad, appealed to all schoolgirls and college students in Wardha district to use this "Damini" WhatsApp helpline number 7620520025 in times of distress. She said that if any student feels unsafe anywhere, she should send a WhatsApp message on this helpline with full details, so that the police can help her.
