A speeding Mahindra Thar lost control and rammed into a house in Jambhulpada village in Virar East on Monday night (October 5). The impact brought down a wall of the house and injured its owner, Subhash Jayaram Sutar. Two two-wheelers parked in front of the house were also damaged.

According to the information available, the incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Monday. Ankit Mishra (26) and his friend Raj Yadav (24) were travelling in the Thar. Both are said to be residents of Nalasopara East. They were headed from Bhatane towards the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway via Bhalivali.

Sutar lives in house number 48/B in Jambhulpada with his wife Suvarna and son Akash. In front of the house runs a cement road leading from Bhalivali to Bhatane. A tin shed stands before the main door, and his TVS Jupiter (MH 48/CV 4152) and Hero Xtreme (MH 48/DL 2881) were parked under it. Between 11.30 pm and 11.45 pm, the Mahindra Thar (MH 48/DX 7898) was travelling from Bhatane towards Bhalivali.

When the Thar reached the limits of Jambhulpada village, the driver lost control. The vehicle then crashed straight into Sutar's house and the wall collapsed. Sutar was injured when bricks from the wall fell on him. The remaining walls of the house are also reported to have developed cracks. The Thar also hit the two two-wheelers parked in front of the house, damaging them. Villagers from nearby rushed to the spot on hearing the loud noise in the night.

The villagers caught both Mishra and Yadav, who were in the Thar. They alleged that the two were drunk. However, there is no official medical confirmation of this so far, and the truth will be clear only after the police investigation.

Mandvi police reached the spot on receiving news of the incident and have taken both men into custody. The investigation is continuing into several aspects, including how the accident happened, how fast the vehicle was going and whether the driver had been drinking.
