The tragedy struck the Satone family, residents near Dhanya Market in Selu. The two daughters of father Sachin Satone studied at Good Shepherd and School of Brilliant in the town. On Wednesday afternoon, Sachin got the girls released from school midway, giving the excuse of a trip to a village outside town. He then took the girls to a farm in Kolgaon Shivar. A short while later, both sisters fell into the well there. It is being said that they had gone to drink water and slipped and fell, but there are also reports suggesting another reason may be behind it. It is also being said that on seeing the girls fall into the well, the father himself jumped in to try to save them.
As soon as news of the incident spread, people working in the area rushed to the spot. Along with health worker Prajwal Latare, police officer Pankaj Waghode, Prashant Srivastava, Rakesh Devgade, Mangesh Raut and Nitin Dakhole also reached the site. With the help of local residents, the bodies of both girls were pulled out of the well.
The accident has caused deep grief across the Selu area. Sachin Satone has three daughters; the eldest, in sixth grade at School of Brilliant, is reported to have been at a Ganpati event in the village eating food at the time of the accident, which is why she survived and remained with her father. The bodies of the two girls were taken from the well and sent to Selu's rural hospital for post-mortem.
A case has been registered and further investigation is being carried out by Selu police. The complete and accurate details of the incident will emerge only after the police investigation. The tragic incident has left the entire Selu area in mourning.
