Two injured in knife attack after abuse row in Nagpur's Ajay Nagar; Yogesh Khandare held

A man and his brother-in-law were hurt when a dispute over abusive language near a Sai Baba temple turned violent, and Ambazari police arrested Yogesh Khandare.

Nagpur: A minor dispute that began when a man was asked not to use abusive language, in front of the Sai Baba temple in Ajay Nagar near Ambazari Hill, quickly turned serious. The accused first beat the complainant and his brother-in-law with a wooden pole (balli) and then attacked with a sharp knife, injuring both. Ambazari police have arrested the accused, Yogesh Khandare.

The complainant, Amol Kawale, and the accused, Yogesh Khandare, live in the same colony and know each other. There had been disputes between them earlier. Yogesh is said to have abused Amol two or three times.

On the morning of October 22, Yogesh is alleged to have come to the front of Amol's house and begun abusing him. When Amol asked why he was doing so, the argument escalated and Yogesh began beating him, it was stated.

On seeing Amol being beaten, his brother-in-law Omprakash Awasare reached the spot to stop the fight. Yogesh is alleged to have attacked both with the pole. Omprakash snatched the pole from his hand. Yogesh then allegedly took out a sharp knife he had kept nearby and struck Omprakash on the back of the head and on the right hand.

The sudden attack caused panic at the spot. Yogesh is said to have fled after the attack.

After receiving the complaint, Ambazari police registered a case under sections relating to attempt to murder. Police then acted and arrested the accused, Yogesh Khandare.

The accused is now in police custody.
