Two held in Nagpur for online betting on India-West Indies cricket match
Nagpur Police arrested two men for allegedly taking online bets on the ongoing India-West Indies match, seizing phones, a tablet and cash.
Nagpur Police have arrested two men on charges of running online betting on the ongoing cricket match between India and the West Indies. The action was taken in the New Suraj Nagar area on Ring Road, under the Bhandewadi police station limits in Nagpur.
According to the police, the escort team of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil received information that Bunty Sheru Ahmed Pathan was running online betting on the outcome of the cricket match from his home. Acting on this, a police team led by API Bhagwan Kolhi, head of the escort squad, raided his house in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the raid, police found Vicky Anil Bansod at the house along with Bunty Pathan. Police claim that both were involved in transactions linked to cricket betting through mobile phones. Both are accused in the case, and the allegations against them are at this stage claims made by the police.
Police recovered three mobile phones, a Samsung tablet and Rs 17,500 in cash during the raid. According to the police, the total value of the seized items is about Rs 1.05 lakh.
A case has been registered against both accused at Bhandewadi police station. Police are now also investigating others linked to the alleged online betting network, as well as the transactions.
